Description: Mastacembelus armatus is a fish that resembles a snake. Its body is without pelvic fins. It is anal and dorsal fins are lengthened forms and are connected to the caudal fin. Many spines precede the dorsal fin. The body is oval and fungi form with the fine muzzle. The body is brown with beige spots clearer; present systematically on the back, a line on with dimensions ones. Its natural size is of 90 cm, but does not exceed 51 cm in captivity. In spite of its appearance, the eel, Mastacembelus armatus are not regarded as a genuine eel.

Anatomy:

Behaviour: More discrete than his/her cousin Mastacembelus erythrotaenia. She digs the ground but not frequently. She is territorial with her congener. She can become aggressive. Description : Le Mastacembelus armatus est un poisson qui ressemble à un serpent ,son corps est sans nageoires pelviennes . Son anal et nageoires dorsales sont de formes allongées et sont reliées à la nageoire caudale. La nageoire dorsale est précédée par de nombreuses épines . Le corps est ovale et longiforme avec le museau fin. Le corps est brun avec des taches beiges plus claires ,présentes de façon régulière sur le dos , une ligne sur les cotés . Sa taille naturelle est de 90 cm ,mais ne dépasse pas 51 cm en captivité . Malgré son apparence, l'anguille, Mastacembelus armatus n'est pas considéré comme une véritable anguille .

Anatomie :

Comportement : Plus discrète que sa cousine Mastacembelus erythrotaenia .Elle creuse le sol mais pas fréquemment. Elle est territorial avec ses congénères , elle peut devenir agressive .Ne pas maintenir avec de petits poissons (risque de se faire dévorer ). Une lumière tamisée permet de la voir un peu dans la journée .Activité principalement nocturne . Ce poisson qui sait nager en avant et en arrière selon les ondulations des nageoires impaires est relativement gentil en regard de sa taille. Le décor idéal pour ce poisson sera constitué de très nombreuses cachettes et de recoins calmes. Il choisit le plus souvent de s'enfouir dans le sable quand le coin ne lui convient pas. Il finit toutefois par s'habituer à son propriétaire et se montre volontiers.


Nutrition : Carnivore : proies vivantes telles que petits crustacés, vers ,larves de moustiques ,poissons . S’habitue difficilement aux aliments en flocons ; les proies lyophilisées et aliments en comprimés sont en général bien acceptés .
