Etymology:

Descriptor: Vierke, 1984.

Synonym (S) or common noun (S): Combatant of Edith; Edith' S Betta (ang); Edith' S must brooder fighter (ang); Edith' S moutbrooder (ang); Ediths Maulbrter-Kampffisch (all).

Origin: frequent in all south of the island of Borneo. Kalimantan, Sumatra, Malaysia.

Anatomy:

Nutrition : Carnivores et omnivores. ;aliments artificiels(flocons),larves de moustique ,petits lombrics .Artémia.

Nourriture des larves : nauplies d’artémias . pas trop les nourrir . Après 2 semaines ,les petits seront assez grands pour manger la nourriture congelée.

Dimorphisme : dès le stade juvénile 4 cm, le betta possède une nageoire anale bordés d’un liseré bleu-noir ,qui se retrouve également sur la moitié inférieur de la nageoire caudale .Les femelles sont de dimensions plus limitées et sont dépourvues de ponctuations à reflets brillants enfin à l’époque du frai leur abdomen est nettement plus arrondi que celui des mâles.

Reproduction : incubation buccal . Contrairement au gourami chocolat ce poisson se reproduit sans aucune timidité. Un couple à la fois. La femelle monte la garde au cas où des poissons s’approcheraient trop de son mâle. Après 9 jours passés dans la bouche du mâle ,les alevins sont en nage libre .

Conseil pour l'aquariophilie : Si vous avez un aquarium avec une grande vitre faciale, vous serez ravi car ce poisson qui est loin d'être timide passe le plus clair de son temps à faire voir ses belles couleurs. La hauteur de l'aquarium ne doit pas être grande car il va respirer de l'air à la surface de l'aquarium. Les changements d'eau doivent être faible mais très rapproché ( 1 toutes les semaines ).
