Macropodus ocellatus.

Classify: Actinoptérygiis.

Subclass:

Order: Perciforme.

Sub-order:

Family: Ospromémidae or Osphrémidés.

Subfamily: Macropodusinaé.

Kind:

Species:

Descriptor: Cantor1842.

Common noun (S) and synomyne (S): - macropodous ocellé (FRA). - macropodous with round tail (FRA). - macropodous of China (FRA). - fish paradise with round tail (FRA). - macropodus chinesis (sci). - polyacanthus opercularis (sci). - polyacanthus paludosus (sci). - paradise fish (ang). - roundtail fishting fish (ang).

Maximum size: male = 8 cm .: femelle= 8 cm.

Weight:

Origin: Asia (the Middle East), south of China, Japan, Korea, Russia.

Zone of life: “The river Zhujiang (pear to rivet). The Heilongjian river (to rivet love). Small brooks without apparent bit or stagnant water of the lakes and plains under cover of vegetations.
: aquarium: superior and intermediary.

Longevity : 5 to 8 years.

Temperature: 10 with 25°c. PH: 6,0° with 7,5. Gh= 5 to 15. Conductivité= >250 with 450 µ/cm2/.
: Obligatory variations between the seasons. In winter, the macropodous one enters a certain form of lethargy and a heightened surveillance is necessary. To think, then to suspend the food until the return of its activity. In summer, optimum between 24° and 27°. Accept possible points with 30° in period of heat wave. In spring and in progressive autumn modification of the temperature.

Requirements: This fish requires a not very mineral-bearing water and neutral in acidity. It has however a capacity of very important adaptation. It would seem that to maintain this species on the long run that the passage of the summer season to winter is essential. The ideal being lorqu' it is maintained inside not heating the Vat.
: Species sensitive to cutaneous ulcerations dependant mainly on a bad maintenance.

Minimum volume: 80 L out of aquarium.
: 300 L external basin.

Installation of the vat: Well planted vat, floating plants, not of heating:
For outside, a part not very major and planted various snap rings, water lilies, lotus and floating plants. It is a true treat in summer, now when one sees the male’s coutiser… nidifier… making respect his territory.

Density: 6 fish.

Nutrition: Carnivorous mode and omnivore (alive and possibly frozen preys, (worms of vase, tubifex, daphnids and artémia, ect…) food in sometimes accepted flake.
To think anything of giving in winter.

Food of larvae: infusorians and nauphie of artémia.

Anatomy:

Behaviour: can be calmer with most aggressive. Can live as a recluse or couple. Not very active. He appreciates the life outside all the year.

Dimorphism: The male has a caudal fin more developed and of orange colour. The male partly presents vertical dark bars on the head and before body. the females have anal fins and dorsal very frayed.

Reproduction: Manufacturer of nest of bubble, agglomerated mucus, preferably under broad sheets. The male forces on its natural colours and becomes superb then. This species is less prolific than Mr. Opercularis. The male will then jealously keep the nest t after the blossoming, occupying itself to bring back its small there, and inlassablement. The alleviants leave the nest at the end of 36 to 72 hours. At this time, any intruder, even the female is gotten rid of with strength:
Vat of laying from at least 50 *30*30 cm (45 L), 24° à26° clew male builds the nest among the floating plants. To withdraw the female after the laying, then the male with the freestyle of alevins. Fine plankton of pond in food of starting, supplemented then (to test as from the 2nd day) by nauplies of artèmia. Sexual maturity attack around the 10 months. The reproduction out of basin of garden is an excellent alternative. The larvae pass very quickly from the stage infusoire, at the stage nauphie of artémias
Description: This fish has a morphology close to his/her more known cousin “Mr. the macropodus opercularis”, the shape of the caudal fin makes it possible to differentiate from the first glance
spearhead at Mr. Ocellus.
- In quadrant at Mr. Opercularis
The colours are rather discrêtes, however the male is rather spectacular, lorsqu' it parades. The body is striped: mabré gray dark clear gray. The fins oranges striped of electric blue, bordered of a fine edging of the same blue. The opercular area esr decorated of ocelle. The female duller, with fins is developed. Malgrés that the young individuals are not obvious with sexer. Like the accustomed one in this family, these fish can breathe the atmospheric air what gets to them an adaptability to various consequent mediums. Level behavior, it is territorial and aggressive towards its congeneric. However, its aptitude for living in outside makes it possible to maintain it in group in great volumes and thus to observe a behavior which I imagine near to nature. Indeed one of the great interests of this fish, it is that it supports food outside all the year under our French latitudes.
If this aptitude is interesting, it is advisable however to keep in mind to pay greats attention not to slacken, in particular the alevins in the natural environment!

Sous-ordre:

Famille :Ospromémidae ou Osphrémidés.

Sous-famille:Macropodusinaé.

Genre:

Espèce:

Descripteur: Cantor1842.
